Today (Typical)

This is probably really boring, but this is me.

Got out of bed at 5 a.m. this morning. Had actually been awake since 4 a.m. I generally don't sleep well when there is a chance I could sleep in and miss a court appearance.

Left the house by 6 a.m. for a court appearance 2 hours away. Arrived to find only metered street parking was available and I had no idea where the bag of change went I used to keep in my car.

Had one quarter in my wallet and that wasn't going to do. Walked to a restaurant nearby, but of course their doors were locked. Went back to my car to look again for my bag of change. A woman walked by and I asked her if I could trade her a dollar for four quarters. She said she only had a quarter. Knew that wouldn't do but I had to take it.

After she said she only had a quarter she started to look for more in her purse and actually found three more. Gladly traded her for the dollar and made her smile when I told her I loved her.

Left my sweet Civic (which I call silver, and E calls gray) parked on a shady street and $1.25 in the meter. (By shady, I don't mean there were trees. Shady as in I was glad I was driving a Civic and not a Mercedes. I know Civics are commonly stolen, but hopefully it doesn't draw as much attention.)

Stood in line to go through security and easily found my department. I was making an appearance for another attorney in the office so all I knew about the case was what I was able to learn in the 30 minutes I breezed through the file. I was given strict instructions to do all I could to avoid getting a trial date.

Gave my report to the judge and he happily responded, "Great, see you in a month." I was so relieved I didn't have to do much of anything. But of course, as I began to pack up my stuff, the court clerk piped up and told the judge we need to give them a trial date. The judge agreed and proceeded to set a date in September.

Aaaa..."Actually your honor..." I began to give the second speech I prepared and as I started to talk his facial expressions were saying to me, "What are you saying?" See this isn't my case, and I don't know much about it, so I was really saying what someone else told me to say, which really didn't make much sense to me, but I had to trust them.

After a few minutes of talking, his face calmed down and he agreed to postpone setting the trial date. VICTORY! It may be a small victory in the scheme of things, but I had accomplished all I was asked to do and I knew I could report back with confidence.

Exchanged pleasantries with opposing counsel in the hallway. Slipped off to the restroom to avoid walking out at the same time. Looked in the mirror and noticed my chest and neck was bright red and my face was seriously pale. Seriously? Why do I get so nervous over such a little thing?

Returned to my car safe and sound and drove back home. Once home I proceeded to munch on everything I could find (because of course I had not ate anything) and realized I'm super tired and I am never going to feel satisfied.

Decided I had to lay down for a bit if I was going to get anything else done during the day. I fell asleep for an hour and after I woke up (with E's kind prompting) I decided I better type up a deposition summary. I had been trying to get it done for almost a week but as soon as I got to the office, it just didn't seem to happen. Yep, did it, no problem in about an hour.

Went on my walk to work with hopes of working on my "to do" list. But of course, by the time I returned my voice-mails, opened my e-mails, regular mail, and billed for my time, all I had time to do was prepare a report for the court appearance and it was already after 5. My "to do" list would have to be tackled tomorrow. How many times have I said that?

Walked home and found E was feeling a little under the weather. Not sure why?

Opened a fun package from Betsy, grilled cheeseburgers (at his request) for him and chicken (for a taco salad) for me. While cooking dinner, many impromptu songs and dance moves were created and expressed with plenty of motorcycle arm moves and hip swivles. Dessert was a cup of ice cream for each of us and now I can barely keep my eyes open.

Awesome E made the bed today so I am so looking forward to getting in with scriptures and a book. I know I won't last long and I will be out until morning.

Just so the post has a picture, here is my little Crayola crayon sharpening guy.
